Scanning & workstations
Pan labels Every case can print a pan label with a QR code (case page → Pan label, or Print labels (N) on the Cases board for every case currently shown). Stick it on the pan — it's the case's physical identity. What the label looks like — stock size, which fields, in what order — is yours to set under Production → Workflow → Pan label. Scanning Open Scan on any phone or tablet. A plain scan jumps you to the case. Pin the device to a workstation (Station mode — pick the bench from the list) and every scan records a check-in or check-out at that bench instead — with a running tally (N scans this session · n in · n out), so scanning 20 pans in a row just works. Hardware barcode scanners (USB or Bluetooth, 2D/QR-capable) work on the Scan and Station pages — no camera needed. Pair the scanner as a keyboard (HID mode, the default), open the page, click it once so the pill reads Barcode scanner ready, and pull the trigger: the scanner types the label into the page and Casetop does the rest — same check-in, handoff and stage rules as the camera. If the result says the code isn't a Casetop label, set the scanner to a US keyboard layout and an Enter suffix (config barcodes in its manual). Typing a case number + Enter works too. The scan rule — one rule, three outcomes There is no "check-in mode" and "check-out mode". Every station-mode scan looks at where the pan is right now: Pan isn't checked in anywhere → it checks in at this bench. Pan is checked in at a different bench → handoff: one scan checks it out of there and in here ("C-… moved: Bench A → Bench B"). Nobody has to remember to check out. Pan is already checked in at this bench → it checks out (scan again later to check back in). Use this when a pan leaves the floor — to the shipping desk, out for a try-in — rather than moving to another bench. Scanning the same pan twice within 10 seconds counts once (the camera keeps seeing the label while you put it down), so a pan never flip-flops in and out by accident. Auto-advancing stages Map each workstation to a stage (Production → Workflow → Workstations, "does stage") and tick Scans advance the stage. Now a check-in at the Milling bench also moves the case to the milling stage. The rules: forward only (a scan at an earlier bench records the check-in but never moves the case backward); never into Shipped (shipping stays a deliberate click, because it bills); and the bench's stage is matched in the case's own pipeline — by stage key, or by stage name when the pipelines spell it differently (a bench that "does Design" advances a Crown & Bridge case to its Design stage and a Main-pipeline case to *its* stage named Design). A check-out never changes the stage. The auto-advance is treated exactly like a manual advance in every respect: the dentist is notified, the move is written to Lab → Audit log naming whoever scanned the pan (so “who moved this case” is answerable on a floor that never touches the button), and any subscribed webhook endpoint receives `case.stage_changed`. It pauses if your subscription has lapsed — the scan still records, and the scanner says why the stage did not move rather than looking like a normal scan. Station view (the bench iPad) Station in the header is the per-bench screen: At this bench (what's physically checked in here), Inbound (cases sitting in this bench's stage), the doctor's note one tap away, and big check-in/out buttons. Refreshes every 10 seconds. Works for floor accounts. Floor TV board Production → TV board (or the 📺 TV button on Cases) is a chrome-less big-screen board for the open floor — refreshes every 15 seconds, shows in-flight / due-today / overdue counts, overdue cases pulse red, one tab per pipeline. It uses the same Dark / Light choice as the rest of Casetop — set it anywhere and the board follows, which is what you want when the board is a second screen beside the laptop you set it from. Hit ⛛ Fullscreen and leave it on the wall.
